The Dominion gets underway today

The first “The Dominion Provincial Club Championship”, sponsored by The Dominion of Canada General Insurance Company, will be held at the Crapaud Community Curling Club beginning on this afternoon. The men’s and women’s winning teams from this event, between the club champions of PEI curling clubs, will compete at the national The Dominion Curling Club championship at the St. George’s Golf and Country Club in Etobicoke Ontario in November.

This new event is designed to give regular club curlers across the country an opportunity to compete in provincial and national level competitions.  Men’s teams are entered from all seven PEI clubs, while all clubs except the Western Community club in Alberton have entered women’s rinks.

The Dominion Provincial Club Championship will be a round robin with eight-end games, with the top three teams in the men’s and women’s divisions advancing to the playoff round on Sunday, where the second-place teams play the third-place rinks in the 1 pm semi-finals, and the semi-final winners then face the first-place teams in the finals at 5:30.

Any profit generated from provincial or national Dominion Curling Club Championship events will be directed to charities including the Canadian Paraplegic Association, as well as developmental curling initiatives in communities across Canada.

Live scoring for this event, along with the draw and team rosters are available at peicurling.com/thedominion.
