Birt rink off to London; Five PEI women’s teams in Lady Monctonian

PEI’s Suzanne Birt rink, which includes Shelly Bradley, Leslie MacDougall and Stefanie Clark, with coach Charlie Sullivan, will be in London Ontario for the 2009 Southwestern Ontario Women’s Charity Cashspiel Oct. 16-19, and then will be back to defend their title in the Lady Monctonian Invitational, from Oct. 23-25 at Club Beauséjour in Moncton, where last year, the Birt foursome edged New Brunswick`s Mary Jane McGuire foursome by a 4-3 score in the final. The Rachel Homan rink from Ottawa are the two-time defending champions at the London charity spiel, which raises money for the fight against breast cancer.  Birt, at that time playing with Rebecca Jean and Robyn MacPhee, and Susan McInnis, won the event in 2003.

Other PEI rinks competing at the Lady Monctonian are the the team of Rebecca Jean and Robyn MacPhee, Kim Dolan, and Nancy Cameron, the Anita Casey foursome, which includes Abbey Burgess, Hillary Thompson, and Jess van Ouwerkerk, with coach Jeff Wilson, the Donna Butler team, which includes Marie Molyneaux, Melissa Andrews, and Carolyn Coulson, with coach Kathie Gallant, and a rink skipped by Kathy O’Rourke, with Erin Carmody, Geri-Lynn Ramsay, and Trisha Affleck, coached by Al Ledgerwood.
