Island curlers on the mainland this weekend

PEI’s top male and female curlers are in Halifax and Moncton, respectively, this weekend, with play starting on Friday, and wrapping up Sunday afternoon.

Island women’s teams skipped by Suzanne Birt, Donna Butler, Anita Casey, Rebecca Jean MacPhee, and Kathy O’Rourke are competing in the Fifth Annual Lady Monctonian Invitational, at Curling Beausejour, while the men’s teams, with skips Brett Gallant, Rod MacDonald, and Eddie MacKenzie, are at the Fifth Annual Fall Cash Spiel, hosted by CFB Halifax. Both are round-robin events.

PEI’s Suzanne Birt rink are the defending champions at the Lady Monctonian, edging New Brunswick’s Mary Jane McGuire foursome by a 4-3 score in last year’s final. The Shawn Adams foursome from the Halifax Mayflower club won the CFB Halifax event last year.
