The finals got underway at 2:30 in the Lady Monctonian invitational women’s cashspiel at Club Beausejour in Moncton, with Truro’s Colleen Pinkney playing Melissa Adams of New Brunswick.
Adams edged Ashley Howard of Moncton 7-6 in the semi-final, while Pinkney got by Andrea Kelly of NB 5-4.
PEI’s Suzanne Birt rink, last year’s champions, lost their quarter-final 7-4 to Pinkney. The Birt team, which includes third Shelly Bradley, second Leslie MacDougall, and lead Stefanie Clark, with coach Charlie Sullivan, finished round-robin play with a 3-2 win-loss record, and were the only Island rink to advance to the quarter-final round.
The Rebecca Jean MacPhee rink also went 3-2, while the other PEI teams, skipped by Donna Butler, Kathy O’Rourke, and Anita Casey, did not manage to pick up a win.
In the other quarter-finals, Melissa Adams of New Brunswick doubled Mary Ann Arsenault of Halifax 10-5, Andrea Kelly of NB edged Jill Mouzar of Halifax 4-3, and Moncton’s Ashley Howard, beat Sylvie Robichaud from the host Beausejour club by a 5-3 count.
