Entry deadline is Nov. 20 for Pepsi Juniors

The Pepsi Juniors, for curlers age 20 and under, take place at the Maple Leaf Curling Club in O’Leary Dec. 18-22 2009. Entry fee is $45 per player, and entry deadline is Nov. 20. Enter online at PEICurling.com. The winning junior men’s and women’s teams will advance to the M&M Canadian Juniors, January 16-24 in Sorel-Tracy Quebec.

Last year, the Erin Carmody rink from the Silver Fox Curling and Yacht Club in Summerside won their third straight PEI Junior Women’s title, scoring three points in the final end for an 8-5 win over the Anita Casey foursome, also from the Silver Fox, in the final. Playing with Carmody were third Geri-Lynn Ramsay, second Jessica van Ouwerkerk, and lead Darcee Birch. Carmody has graduated from the Junior ranks, so there will be a new Junior Women’s winner this year.

In the Junior men’s section last season, the Brett Gallant rink from the Charlottetown Curling Club won their fourth consecutive Pepsi Junior championship. Gallant, with third Adam Casey, second Anson Carmody and lead Jamie Danbrook, doubled Summerside’s Sam Ramsay foursome 6-3 in the final, and went on to win the Canadian Championship, and a silver medal at the Worlds. The Gallant rink will be looking to make it five in a row this year, with original lead Alex MacFadyen returning to the team.

End-by-end results will be available at PEICurling.com/juniors.
