Fourteen teams set to begin Canada Games curling playdowns

Eight junior women’s curling teams, and six junior men’s rinks begin Canada Games playdowns on Friday, with the pre-Trials event at the Silver Fox Curling and Yacht Club in Summerside. Four teams from each sex will then advance to the Selection Trial Finals, Dec. 11-14 at the Charlottetown Curling Club. The winners from the Finals will compete in the Canada Games, Feb. 11-27 2011 at the Mayflower Curling Club in Halifax. The 2011 Games are open to curlers born between January 1, 1993, and Dec, 31, 1998.

At the pre-Trials, the junior men will play a round robin, with the top four teams advancing, while the junior women will play a triple knockout to choose the four qualifiers. Play gets underway Friday morning at nine, and wraps up with the 2 pm draw on Sunday, unless a second round of tiebreakers is required for the junior men. If so, that extra draw would go Monday afternoon at two. All games are eight ends.

Live results from both the pre-Trials and the Finals will be available at peicurling.com/canadagames.
