PEI teams will finish out of playoffs at The Dominion

After five men’s and five women’s draws at The Dominion Curling Club Championship in Toronto, the PEI Men’s team skipped by Louis Walsh of the Silver Fox, are still looking for their first win, against four losses, after dropping a 9-1 decision to Ontario. The PEI women, with skip Vanessa Hamming from the Crapaud Community Curling Club are at 1-3, after losing 7-4 to Nova Scotia.

Saskatchewan (5-0) and Ontario (4-0) are still undefeated on the men’s side, while Manitoba (5-0), Alberta and Ontario (both 4-0) lead the women.

The PEI women take on Ontario tonight at 9 Atlantic. PEI men and women wrap up round robin play on Saturday, with games against Newfoundland/Labrador. The finals go Sunday at 3 pm Atlantic.

The 2010 national event will be held on PEI, at the Charlottetown and Cornwall curling clubs, with the PEI playdowns taking place March 18-21 2o1o in Cornwall.

PEI team bios

Team Walsh has curled together for one season at Summerside’s Silver Fox Curling and Yacht Club. Skip Louis Walsh is a multi-club bonspiel champion, and has twice been runner-up in each of four provincial tournaments. Third Doug Waugh came in second at the P.E.I. Seniors in 2002, while lead Raymond Thomson has attended four Senior Provincials and nine Provincial Masters.

Team Hamming has played together for one season. Skip Vanessa Hamming competed at the P.E.I. Pepsi Juniors in 1990, and third Ruth Walsh has won several medals at the provincial level. Second Lindsay Moore is a past manager and ice maker at the Crapaud Curling Club.
