Three rinks remain undefeated at M&M Meat Shops 15 and Under

After opening day round robin play at the M&M Meat Shops Provincial age 15 and Under Curling Championships at the Western Community Curling Club in Alberton, one boy’s team, and two girl’s rinks remain undefeated with 2-0 win-loss records.

In the three team boy’s section, Alex Matters and his Charlottetown rink of Chris Gallant, Kyle Holland, and Andrew Cameron, with coaches Peter Gallant and Derrick Cameron came on strong in their opener, with a 15-1 win over the Brandon MacNevin rink from the Silver Fox, taking a six point and a five point end in the process. Their second game, against Kyle Hughes and his combined Charlottetown and Maple Leaf  rink, which includes Matthew MacLean and Marshall Smallman from last year’s winning rink, was much closer, with Matters coming out on the winning side of a 7-5 score.  Hughes won his opener against MacNevin in the three team division, by a 17-1 score to sit at 1-1.

The Emma Cousins rink from the Maple Leaf club in O’Leary, and the Caroline Rose team from Montague are both 2-0 in the girl’s section. Cousins, and her rink of Laura O’Meara, Paige Vincent, and Julia McInnis, with coaches Parker Clements and Keith Rowley, blanked Charlottetown’s Emily Keen rink 11-0, and took two four-enders in a 16-1 victory over the Fallon Arsenault team from the Silver Fox. Rose, with teammates Sarah MacPhee, Jessica Chapman, and Leah Deveau, with coach Carolyn MacPhee, beat Cornwall’s Veronica Smith rink 6-4, and Emily Keen by an 8-3 score.  Smith, and Jenny McLean of the Fox are at 1-1,  while Arsenault and Keen are 0-2.

Play continues with Saturday draws at 10:30 am, and 1:30, 4:30 and 7:30 pm, and Sunday play at 10:30 am and 2 and 5 pm.
