New Brunswick teams win Atlantic Under 18 Curling titles

The New Brunwick team of Andrew Case, Jordan Craft, Ryan Freeze, and Keegan Jeans, with coach Felipe Garcia, beat the Nova Scotia men’s rink, skipped by Thomas Raddall, by a 5-3 score to win the men’s section of the Atlantic Under 18 Curling Championships, which concluded Sunday at the Riverside Golf and Country Club in Rothesay NB.

It was the same story in the women’s final, with the New Brunswick rink of Jennifer Armstrong, Marissa Gale, Jessica Moore and Trish Henheffer, with coach Chris Jeffrey, beating Nova Scotia’s Taylor Clarke foursome, by an 8-2 score.

The host women’s team, skipped by Beatrice Fortier of the Grand Falls Curling Club, beat the Amanda Rumboldt team from Grand Falls, Nfld. and Labrador 4-1 in the women’s consolation final, while the Newfoundland/Labrador men, skipped by John Sheppard, edged the host men’s team from the Riverside club, skipped by Josh Pye, by a 6-5 score.

The PEI men’s rink of Matthew MacLean, Marshall Smallman, Kevin Gallant, and Alan MacLean, with coach Glen MacLean finished without picking up a win, losing their final round robin game 6-5 to the host team. Their Maple Leaf clubmates, the team of Tiffany Sweet, Chantal Clements, Kathleen O’Meara, and Laura O’Meara, with coach Ralph Sweet, picked up their only win of the event in their last round robin game, stealing a double in the 6th in a 5-4 win over the Nova Scotia team.
