A free wheelchair curling demonstration and instruction session will be held on Sunday November 21 from 1:30 to 4:30 pm at the Silver Fox Curling and Yacht Club in Summerside.

Everyone is welcome, including potential participants and coaches, and family and friends of potential wheelchair curlers. No admission charge.

The instructor will be 2006 and 2010 Paralympic gold medallist and 2009 world wheelchair curling champion Sonja Gaudet.

Gaudet, who lives in Vernon BC, sustained a spinal cord injury in 1997 following a fall from her horse. An avid sportswoman, she took up wheelchair curling. She is also an ambassador with the Rick Hansen Wheelchair Foundation, and the Canadian Paralympic Committee, where she uses her experiences to motivate and inspire others.

The workshop will include an introduction to wheelchair curling, including equipment required, delivery styles, and shotmaking, with both classroom and on-ice instruction. No previous curling experience is required.
