Postmedia News- Morris, Man. — Nova Scotia’s Paul Flemming grabbed a share of first place at the Canadian mixed curling championship Wednesday night with a 6-4 win over Manitoba’s Terry McNamee.
Flemming scored deuces in the first and fourth ends to build a 4-2 lead against a Manitoba team that came into Draw 13 in sole possession of first place. Flemming sealed the win with a steal of one in the 10th.
Flemming upped his record to 7-1 and is tied for the lead with Robert Campbell of Prince Edward Island. McNamee fell into a tie for third with Ontario’s Chris Gardner at 7-2.
Nova Scotia and P.E.I. square off this morning.
Earlier in the day, Flemming used a score of four in the eighth end to finish off Steve Moss of the Territories (3-5), winning 9-3.
Consecutive steals of one in the sixth and seventh ends gave Campbell a 7-5 win over Saskatchewan’s Steven Slupski (2-6) in the late draw. That came after Campbell erased a 4-1 deficit against British Columbia’s Tom Buchy (2-6) with a three-spot in the fifth and stole two in the seventh before hanging on for an 8-7 win earlier. Other members of the Campbell rink are Rebecca Jean MacPhee, Robbie Doherty, and Jackie Reid.
