Robert Campbell wins his 2nd Canadian Mixed Ch’ship

Morris Manitoba – PEI’s Robert Campbell rink, which includes Rebecca Jean MacPhee at third, second Robbie Doherty, and lead Jackie  Reid edged the Manitoba foursome skipped by Terry McNamee by a 4-3 score this evening to win the Canadian Mixed Curling Championship. It was Campbell’s second Mixed title – his first was also in Manitoba, against Jeff Stoughton, back in 1989.

In today’s low-scoring game, the first end was blanked, with Campbell taking a single in the second and stealing another single point in the third end. The fourth was blanked, with McNamee getting on the board with a single in the fifth.  The sixth was blanked, and the teams traded singles in seven and eight. McNamee stole the ninth to tie the game, but Campbell had hammer coming home, and scored the winning point.

Two players from the winning team will represent Canada at the World Mixed Doubles Championship, slated for April 15-24 in St. Paul, Minnesota.
