Sport PEI calls for award nominations

(Sport PEI) With the 2010 sporting year coming to a close, Sport PEI is turning its attention to recognizing the Island’s best athletes, teams, coaches, officials and  administrators at next year’s amateur sport awards banquet.

Hardware will be presented in the following categories: senior male and senior female athlete; junior male and junior female athlete; intercollegiate male and female athlete; team of the year; masters athlete award; administrator; coach, and official.

Recognition for the athlete and team awards will be based solely on performances in 2010, while consideration for the official, coach and administrator awards may be given to those who have contributed over a longer period of time.

To be eligible for the junior awards, athletes must be 18 years or younger as of January 1, 2011, while the masters athlete recognizes those who are performing at high levels at age 35 or older. The intercollegiate awards will be presented to athletes who are excelling in varsity sport.

Nomination forms are available from the Sport PEI website at www.sportpei.pe.ca, or by calling (902) 368-4547. Nominations close January 14, 2011.
Any questions on the nominating process should be directed to Nick Murray at that telephone number or by e-mail to [email protected]. Nominations are welcomed from members of the public, as well as provincial sport organizations.

The awards banquet is scheduled for Wednesday, April 6 2011 in Charlottetown.
