Fullerton and Pitre rinks capture Pepsi Juniors “A” finals

The defending champion Sarah Fullerton rink from the Cornwall Curling Club and the Spencer Pitre rink from Charlottetown captured the A sections of the triple-knockout Pepsi Bottling Group Provincial Junior Curling Championships today at the Montague Curling Club. Fullerton, and her rink of Michelle McQuaid, Sara MacRae, and Whitney Young, got by the 2011 Canada Games contenders, the Amanda MacLean foursome from the Maple Leaf club in O’Leary, by a 9-7 score, while Pitre beat the Samuel Ramsay team, which includes players from the Charlottetown, Montague and Silver Fox clubs, 9-4. Other members of the Pitre team are Connor MacPhee, Matthew Nabuurs, and Eric Pidgeon.

In the 4 pm draw, Fullerton is playing the Veronica Smith team, also from Cornwall, while MacLean is taking on Carolyn Rose of Montague. The winners will advance to the B section final,  at 8:30 am Tuesday. In the junior men’s section at 8 tonight, Ramsay faces Jeffrey Taylor of Cornwall, while Pitre is playing the junior men’s Canada Games team, skipped by Tyler Smith, from the Silver Fox. The winners of these games will advance to the 1 pm Tuesday “B” final. Both “C” finals go at 8:30 pm. Tuesday

The winners of the section finals advance to the two game Championship round at 11:30 am and 3 pm on Wednesday. If the same team wins all three sections, the championship round would not be needed. If a team takes two section finals, they would play in both games, and win the title if they took either.

The eventual winners will advance to the M&M Meat Shops Canadian Juniors, January 29-February 5, 2011, in Calgary.
