Gearing up for Scotties (Guardian)

The 2011 Scotties Tournament of Hearts comes to Charlottetown Feb. 19-27

Work has already begun on transforming P.E.I.’s largest arena into a curling club.

Dave McGrath, general manager of the Charlottetown Civic Centre, gave The Guardian a brief preliminary tour Thursday of changes that are coming for the facility in preparation for the 2011 Scotties Tournament of Hearts, Feb. 19-27.

It will be the third time Charlottetown has hosted the national women’s curling championship. The Charlottetown Forum served as host site in 1982 while the Civic Centre hosted the event in 1999.

“We are very, very pleased to be hosting the best in the country,’’ McGrath said. “We can’t wait.’’
