(CCA) The 2011 Scotties Tournament of Hearts comes to the Charlottetown Civic Centre, February 19 – 27 and speculation is growing over who will represent the Island in the women’s national curling championship.
After the incredible performance of the Kathy O’Rourke foursome in last year’s Scotties – taking Team Canada’s Jennifer Jones right down to the last rock in the championship final – local fans are looking forward to another run at the title.
The matter will be decided January 27-31 at the Cornwall Curling Club when the top six teams in the province compete for the honour of playing in front of a hometown crowd.

The field for the PEI playdowns includes defending PEI champ O’Rourke – along with teammates Erin Carmody, Geri-Lynn Ramsay and Tricia Affleck – as well as Tammy Dewar, Suzanne Birt, Donna Butler, Shirley Berry and Kim Dolan. It’s a group with a wealth of experience in provincial and national competition.
“I’m really looking forward to the provincials,” says Kim Dolan, Host Committee Chair of the 2011 Scotties Tournament of Hearts. “Obviously because I’m one of the competitors… but, also, there’s just so much excitement surrounding the Scotties considering how close Kathy and the girls came last year. It’s done so much for the game in PEI.”
