The Marco Polo Land PEI Masters Curling Championships, for curlers age 60 and over, is still underway. Thursday’s games were moved to Friday, due to a snowstorm. On Friday, the host Charlottetown Curling Club experienced an ice plant failure, forcing another postponement, until Monday. Due to the unavailability of some of the curlers in the men’s division on Monday, it was then decided to hold the final two men’s games earlier. The Men’s B final was played at the Cornwall Curling Club on Friday between the two Scotties draws, with Bill Hope defeating Mel Bernard by a 7-2 score. This sets up the final game, which will be held Sunday evening beginning at 7:30 at the Silver Fox Curling and Yacht Club in Summerside, with “A” section winner Bernard taking on “B” section winner Hope for the men’s Masters title.

Meanwhile, the women’s Masters B final, between Diane MacKay of Cornwall and Jeanne Duffenais of the Silver Fox, will be contested Monday at 10 am back at the Charlottetown club.  The B final winner then faces defending champion Carol Sweetapple  from Cornwall in the 1 pm final, also at Charlottetown.

Sixteen men’s and four women’s teams took part in the double-knockout event.

Winners and runners-up earn the right to compete in the Maritime Masters Championships, February 14-19,  at the Charlottetown Curling Club.
Winners may also participate in the Canadian Masters, March 30 to April 5 at the Assiniboine Memorial Curling Club in Winnipeg.
