Suzanne Birt will represent Prince Edward Island at the Scotties Tournament of Hearts to be held in Charlottetown next month.

Birt defeated the Kathy O’Rourke team by a score of 7-3 in action Monday afternoon at the Cornwall Curling Club.

O’Rourke needed to win this game in order to have a second chance to win the provincial championship. Her team was last year’s provincial champion, and won silver at the national event.

In the Monday afternoon draw at the P.E.I. provincial women’s championship, the Birt team scored one in the second end, two in the fourth end, and one each in the seventh and eighth ends.

The ninth end was a blank, and the Birt team stole three in the 10th end for the win.

The O’Rourke team scored single points in the third, fifth and sixth ends.

“It feels great,” Birt said after her rink’s victory. “I mean, I’ve never been in such a huge provincial before and there were so many great shots today. We’re just so excited to be playing at our hometown in the Civic Centre.”
