Charlottetown’s Eddie MacKenzie, and his rink of third Mike Gaudet, second Mike Dillon, and lead Alex MacFadyen, with coach Blair Weeks, beat their clubmates, the John Likely foursome by an 8-6 score this afternoon at Summerside’s Silver Fox Curling and Yacht Club to win the Labatt Tankard PEI Men’s Curling Championship, and a ticket to the Tim Hortons Brier, March 5-13 in London Ontario. It’s the second Tankard victory for MacKenzie,  who played third for this year’s third stone, Mike Gaudet, when they won back in 1994. Gaudet also won, as skip, in 2004. Second Mike Dillon was previously on three winning teams, skipped by Rod MacDonald and Robert Campbell.

MacKenzie had to come from behind to win today’s game, trailing 5-2 after five ends against Likely, but came out firing in the second half, following a deuce in six with a stolen deuce in seven, and a steal of one in eight to grab a 7-5 lead. The teams traded singles in the last two ends to give MacKenzie the win. Other members of the runner-up Likely foursome are Kyle Stevenson, Mark Butler, and Doug MacGregor.

15 teams began play Thursday in this year’s event.
