Credit Unions Seniors Ch’ships start tomorrow at Maple Leaf and Crapaud

The Credit Unions of PEI Provincial Seniors Curling Championships, for curlers age 5o+, get underway on Thursday evening at two venues — the men’s championship will take place at the Maple Leaf Curling Club in O’Leary, while the women’s event will be held at the Crapaud Community Curling Club. Eight men’s and the same number of women’s teams are signed up, and will play triple knockout draws through Sunday, followed by a two game championship round on Monday, Feb. 14. Defending champions are Peter MacDonald rink from the Charlottetown Curling Club, and the Shirley Berry foursome from Cornwall. Berry is back with her team intact, but MacDonald is sitting out this year’s event, with his brother Rod moving up to skip the MacDonald team, and Tom Fetterly joining the rink at second.

The winning men’s and women’s teams will advance to the World Financial Group Canadian Seniors, March 19-26 in Digby NS.

Friday draws are at 1 and 6 pm, with Saturday and Sunday action at 11 am and 4 pm at both clubs.  Monday championship round games are scheduled for 1 and 6 pm. If a team wins A, B, and C sections in the triple knockout portion of the event, the  championship round will not be required. If a team wins two sections, they will play in both championship round games, and win the event if  they take either.
