PEI finishes on winning note at Scotties

PEI’s Suzanne Birt rink finished play at the Scotties tonight with a 10-5 win in  the final round robin draw, over Stacie Devereaux and her Newfoundland/Labrador team, who finished their first Scotties with a 1-10 win-loss record. PEI, who stole three points in tonight’s final end, finished with a 6-5 record.

Saskatchewan’s Amber Holland team lost 8-5 to BC (Kelly Scott) tonight, but finished in first place with a 9-2 record, followed by Jennifer Jones and Team Canada at 8-3.  These teams will clash in the 1-2 game, Friday at 7:30 pm, with the winner advancing directly to the final, and the loser taking on the winner of the 3-4 game, between third place Ontario (8-3) and the winner of a 2:30 pm Friday tiebreaker between Nova Scotia and BC, both 7-4. The 3-4 game goes Saturday at noon, with the winner playing the 1-2 loser in the  semi-final at 5 pm Saturday.

The bronze medal game goes Sunday afternoon at 2:30, with the final at 7:30 pm. All times Atlantic.

In other games this evening, Ontario shaded Quebec 5-4, and Canada beat Alberta’s Shannon Kleibrink, 8-5.
