LUKE SAUNDERS could end up being a busy guy this week in Digby.

While his parents, Scott Saunders and Colleen Jones, skip the Nova Scotia men’s and women’s entries in the Canadian senior curling championships, it looks like the 17-year-old may be entrusted to lead the Saunders-Jones spirit squad.

The Saunders and Jones rinks see their first action Saturday when the bonspiel gets underway at the Digby arena and the Digby Curling Club with a pair of 12-team fields vying for the national titles.

Jones opens against Prince Edward Island’s June Moyaert in the afternoon draw while Saunders plays P.E.I.’s Bill Hope in the evening. In fact, Saturday’s games mark the only time all week that they won’t be on the ice in the same draw.
