Invitation to Participate in Competition-Development Curling Pilot Program

As you are likely aware, curling along with all other sports are undergoing a transition into Competency Based Coach Education.  Curling has already developed three programs and we are working on our fourth, the Competition-Development Context which will eventually replace our Level 3 Coach Training Program.

A critical part of the transition process is to test or pilot the training program, training materials, content and the training process.

We are looking for 6-10 coaches from across the country with the following:
–  Ability to provide constructive feedback to program creators
– Currently working with a team expected to perform at a provincial level or higher, team willing to participate in a yearly performance plan
– Need/Desire to receive Level 3 or Competition Development Certification (Canada Games) – you can join us even you’ve taken Level 3 as well!
– Access to High Speed Internet, willingness to communicate electronically (online training sessions to be conducted) – you may need a webcam for future training sessions
– Must attend mandatory on-ice training session in Guelph, Ontario – August 11-14, 2011
– Willingness to complete entire program (including Evaluation) within a 12-18 month timeframe

What’s in it for you?
– At the successful completion of the entire program you will be a Certified Competition Development Coach – this will be our new “Level 3” equivalent
– You will have the skill set to bring your team to the next level, focusing on the latest curling techniques, strategies, advanced practice planning, performance planning  and the ability to manage a program
– You will work with a mentor coach to help  you through the process and guide your learning individually
– You will learn from the Canadian Curling Association’s National Coaching Team and National Coaching Transition Team

What does the program consist of?
– The training will be a combination of some prerequisites, Multisport Modules (delivered by Provincial/Territorial Coaching Associations), curling specific training and evaluation.

(*) = Multisport Evaluation Online  (**) = will be delivered by curling facilitators during sport specific training
Costs
– Multisport Modules fees are determined by Provincial/Territorial Coaching Associations
– Curling Sport Specific Training (August 11-14th) (payment made payable to Canadian Curling Association) $300.00
– Practice and Competition Evaluation ($150.00 each) payable to the CCA at time of evaluation

Bursaries
– In an effort to reduce the financial burden on coaches most provinces have created a bursary program to help offset some or all costs
