Curler Cathy Dillon to be inducted into PEI Sports Hall of Fame (Journal)

CHARLOTTETOWN – Charlottetown’s Cathy Dillon, a curler with an illustrious career as a player and builder of the sport, will be inducted into the PEI Sports Hall of Fame on Friday, Sept. 16.

The annual inductions will take place at Red Shores Racetrack and Casino in Charlottetown.

Dillon will be inducted alongside Jamie Kennedy (athlete, hockey), Myron Weeks (builder, volleyball), George Morrison (builder, basketball) and Sandy Frizzell (builder, hockey). The PEI Mutual Insurance Company is sponsoring the induction ceremony.

A native of Hope River, Dillon began her curling career in 1962 while teaching in Calgary, before returning to her Island roots. She joined the Charlottetown Curling Club, where she enjoyed phenomenal success throughout the 1970s and early 1980s.

Not only has Dillon been an outstanding competitor on the ice, she has been a true builder of the sport in the province. She has taken on many important positions within the PEI Ladies Curling Association and the Charlottetown Curling Club. She is a highly qualified coach and official, and has been on numerous organizing committees for many of the major events hosted by the province in the last 30 years.
