SASKATOON — Crystal Webster and Valerie Sweeting felled a lot of giants before turning on each other Monday night.

Webster, from Calgary, edged Edmonton-based Sweeting 6-5 in an extra end during the finale of the Saskatoon Colonial Square Ladies Curling Classic on Monday.

Islanders Erin Carmody and Geri-Lynn Ramsay are on the Webster team, along with Sam Preston.

Just getting to the final was huge accomplishment for Webster and Sweeting. Sweeting beat former world champions Bingyu Wang of China and Jennifer Jones of Winnipeg during the playoff round, while Webster scored playoff wins over Saskatoon’s Stefanie Lawton, who had won the Classic title four of the last five years, and two-time Olympic silver-medallist Mirjam Ott of Switzerland.
