Final Grand Slam of Curling event of the season at Summerside, PEI’s Credit Union Place will now take place from April 17-22, 2012.
SUMMERSIDE, PE– The Capital One Grand Slam of Curling today announced that the dates for the season-ending GP Car and Home Players’ Championship have been changed to April 17 to April 22, 2012. The final Grand Slam event on the calendar will take place in Summerside, PEI at Credit Union Place as planned; however, the tournament will now begin one week later than originally scheduled.
The decision to delay the start of the GP Car and Home Players’ Championship was made jointly by the Grand Slam of Curling and its broadcast partner, CBC Sports. The date change will avoid potential programming conflicts with the Stanley Cup Playoffs and will allow potential participating teams to rest following the World Men’s Curling Championship, which takes place earlier in April, 2012.
“The main priority for the Capital One Grand Slam of Curling is to provide a venue for the world’s best curlers to compete at their highest level, and we’re confident that moving the GP Car and Home Players’ Championship back one week will do just that,” said Kevin Albrecht, CEO, iSport Media and Management. “Holding the event one week later will ensure that all eligible teams will be rested and ready to compete for the Capital One Cup.”
All tickets that have already been sold will be honoured for the same draws on the corresponding new dates. Any spectators who have already purchased tickets who will not be able to attend the event on the new dates will be offered a full refund before January 8, 2012.
CBC Sports will have live coverage of the quarter-final and semifinal draws on Saturday, April 21 as well as live coverage of the final draw on Sunday, April 22.
The dates for the Capital One Million Dollar Button contest’s Summerside quarter-final event as well as the overall semifinal and final events will also be adjusted to match the change in the tournament schedule. The Summerside quarter-final event and overall semifinal events will now take place on April 21, 2012 with the final now set for April 22, 2012.
