PEICA to hold Junior Curling Camp at Maple Leaf club on Jan. 29

On Sunday 29 Jan. 2012 the PEICA will be holding a junior (age 20 & under) Learn to Curl/Skills Development and Talent Identification Camp open to all Island junior teams and individuals from novice to intermediate level.

Please Note: The camp will focus on novice to intermediate junior teams and individuals who have at least one year of curling experience, primarily between 10 and 15 years of age, with the main focuses on learning, skills development, and fun, and will provide an opportunity for talent identification.

CAMP LOCATION:  O’Leary Maple Leaf Curling Club

Sunday 29 January

8:30 a.m. – 9:00 am                 Check in and Change up

9:00 a.m. – 5:00 p.m.              Camp – On-ice and classroom sessions

COST:

$100.00  per team including coach, or $25.00 per individual.  Space is limited (32) and selection will be on a first-come first-paid basis.  Morning and afternoon nutrition breaks will be provided by the camp each day.

DEADLINE FOR APPLICATION:

Cheque (payable to PEI Curling Association) and registration form must be received by Friday January, 2012.

CAMP CONTENT:

  • ·        On-Ice topics will include
    • Technical Skills (Stance, Balance, Timing, Line of Delivery)
    • Technical Skills (Grip, Turns, Release, Rotation)
    • Drills for skill development
    • Brushing Drills & Skills, Communication
    • Shot selection
    • 2-3 end game (with basic strategy discussion)
    • The Great Shoot Out
  • ·        Off-Ice topics will include:
    • Technical Review,
    • Safety, Rules & Etiquette (On & off  ice)
    • Team Roles & Responsibilities, Goal Setting,
    • Basic Strategy
    • Importance of Warm Up & Cool Down
