Brett Gallant rink doubles Rod MacDonald team in all-PEI Atlantic Curling Tour final

In a battle of two PEI teams for the Atlantic Curling Tour Championship title this afternoon at Curling Beausejour in Moncton, the Island rink skipped by Brett Gallant doubled the Rod MacDonald team by a 6-3 score. The event featured the top points earners on the Tour this year. The MacDonald foursome beat New Brunswick’s Jason Vaughan rink 8-3 in this morning’s semi-finals, while the Gallant team edged another New Brunswick team, skipped by Marcel Robichaud, 5-4 in an extra end.

The runner-up MacDonald foursome includes Kevin Champion, Mark O’Rourke, and Andrew Robinson, while Eddie MacKenzie, Anson Carmody, and Alex MacFadyen round out the winning Gallant rink.

In the Saturday night quarter-finals, Gallant defeated Chad Stevens of NS 6-2 while MacDonald edged Nova Scotian Brent MacDougall 8-7 in an extra end.

The sixteen teams in the event were divided into four pools of four teams in the round robin, with Gallant and MacDonald finishing round robin play with 2-1 win-loss records. The other Island rinks in the event were skipped by Robert Shaw, who went 1-2, and Mike Gaudet and Robert Campbell, who both finished at 0-3.
