MacFadyen three-peats in firefighters curling (Journal)

MONTAGUE – Summerside Fire Department’s rink skipped by Gordon MacFadyen was the provincial winner for the third consecutive year in the P.E.I. Firefighters Curling Championship held this past weekend at the Montague Curling Club.

The Jerry Hughes foursome representing the Crossroads Fire Department went through the weekend undefeated to advance directly to the finals and had to be defeated twice. The team from Summerside did just that by winning the first game 7-1 by scoring early and defending for the rest of the game.

In the sudden-death final, the Summerside foursome went up 3-1 after four and blew it open in the sixth by scoring six to claim the title.

MacFadyen will now represent P.E.I. at the 53rd national firefighter curling championship in Truro, N.S., March 22 to April 1. Other members of the Summerside team are Leo Stewart mate, Dwane MacNeil, second, and Jim Arsenault, lead.
