“The Iceman” recreates “The Shot” at Toronto The Dominion charity event for CPA

$130,000 was raised over the weekend at the 11th annual CPA Day bonspiel and 1st annual CPA Day Elite Curler “Shootout” challenge charity event for the Canadian Paraplegic Association. held at the St. George’s Golf and Country Club in Toronto. Glenn Howard and “The Iceman” Al Hackner were on hand to try to recreate two of the most famous shots in curling. Not only did Hackner and his team win the bonspiel, he also succeeded in replicating his famous shot from the 1985 Brier in Moncton.

Curling writer George Karrys reports that Hackner has tried to replicate what has become known as “The Shot” a number of times over the years, and never succeeded, but nailed it on his first try in this event.

Hackner is a two time Canadian and World men’s champ, winning in 1982 as well as 1985.

His last Canadian championship was the Canadian Seniors, in Summerside in 2006.
