Three PEI rinks to compete in Maritime Masters, starting tomorrow in New Glasgow NS

The first draw is scheduled for 8 am Monday at the Maritime Masters Curling Championships, for curlers age 60 and over, taking place at the Bluenose Curling Club in New Glasgow NS. The winners and runners-up from the Medicine Shoppe Pharmacy PEI Masters championship women’s divison, skipped by Shirley Berry, from the Charlottetown and Cornwall Curling Clubs, and Cornwall’s Ruth Stavert, respectively, are taking part, along with Louis Walsh from Summerside’s Silver Fox Curling and Yacht Club on the men’s side.

PEI Masters men’s champs, and last year’s Maritime Masters runners-up, the Mel Bernard rink from the Silver Fox, are not participating this year, and a host club team is replacing the second PEI men’s entry. The teams play a round robin schedule,  mornings and afternoons over 3 days to determine the 2012 Maritime Masters Champions.

Other members of the Berry rink are Sandy Hope, Arleen Harris, and Evelyn Rogerson. Playing with Stavert are Myrna Sanderson, Gloria Clarke, and Myrna Craswell. Rounding out the Walsh foursome are Wayne Gardiner, Les Hardy, and Walter Benson.

The Maritime Masters has been held since 1987 (for the men) and 1988 (for the women) and rotates each year between the three Maritime provinces.
