PEI’s Louis Walsh rink 2-0 at Maritime Masters

Two teams, skipped by Louis Walsh from Summerside PEI’s Silver Fox Curling & Yacht Club, and Peter Taylor from the Carleton Curling Club in Saint John NB share the lead with 2-0 win-loss records after opening day play in the men’s division of the Maritime Masters Curling Championships, for curlers age 60 and over, being played at the Bluenose Curling Club in New Glasgow NS. Other members of the Walsh foursome are Wayne Gardiner, Les Hardy, and Walter Benson.

The Connie Bothwell rink from Fredericton’s Capital Winter Club and the Judy Burgess foursome from the Truro Curling Club are in the lead in the women’s section, also with 2-0 records. PEI’s Masters women’s champions, the Shirley Berry rink from Charlottetown and Cornwall are 1-1, while the Ruth Stavert rink from Cornwall are 0-2. Round robin play continues on Tuesday and wraps up on Wednesday.

PEI’s  Masters men’s champions,  the Mel Bernard rink from the Silver Fox,  are competing in the PEI seniors championships, which wrap up tonight, and were unable to participate in this event.
