Loss two years ago still ‘burns’ for UPEI skip-Brett Gallant’s Panther foursome begins play today at CIS curling ch’ships (Guardian)

It’s probably a good thing the Brett Gallant rink dives right into the Canadian Interuniversity Sport curling championships today in Welland, Ont.

Good in that skip Gallant and the UPEI Panthers rink wastes no time revenging its second- place finish two years ago to Queen’s University, a 7-6 defeat.

“(It still burns) a little bit. I thought we had good tournament. Our team played really well, we just didn’t capitalize on our chances,” Gallant said Tuesday. “( We’ve) only got in a few games ( this season), but we’ve been practising. I feel we’re definitely prepared for it.”

The Gallant foursome, which includes third Alex Macfadyen, second Sam Ramsay and lead Connor Macphee, won the Atlantic university title with an 8- 5 come- from- behind victory over the defending men’s champion from Saint Mary’s in mid- January at the Cornwall Curling Club.

It begins round- robin play today at 8 p. m. AT versus Waterloo then plays six more games over the next four days.

The championship game is on Sunday.
