Atlantic rinks all have 2-4 win-loss records after Friday play at CIS/CCA University Ch’ship

With one round robin draw remaining at the CIS/CCA University Curling Championship, hosted by Brock University, and being played at the Welland Curling Club, the four Atlantic teams all have two wins each, against four losses.

Team UPEI, skipped by Brett Gallant, split their Friday games, beating the Brock  Badgers host team by a 9-4 score, but losing 11-3 to Robert Mayhew and his Acadia Axemen rink. The Axemen lost 8-7 to the Manitoba Bisons this morning.

On the women’s side today, PEI native Anita Casey and her rink from Saint Mary’s lost 9-4 to the Alberta Pandas, but beat the Memorial Sea Hawks 7-5. The Sea Hawks, skipped by Erin Porter, beat the Brock Badgers host team 8-5 in the morning draw.

The Wilfred Laurier Golden Hawks are undefeated at 6-0 in the women’s division, while the Alberta Pandas and the Manitoba Bisons are 4-2, and the Badgers are 3-3. SMU, Memorial, and Guelph are 2-4, while the Western Mustangs trail at 1-5.

The Alberta Golden Bears and the Waterloo Warriers lead the men’s division with 5-1 win-loss records, followed by the Badgers and the Bisons, both at 3-3. The remaining four teams are at 2-4.

Round robin play wraps up tomorrow morning with the 9 a.m. draw. UPEI plays Carleton in that draw. Tiebreakers, if needed, go at 2 pm. The semi-finals are scheduled for 7 p.m. Saturday night with the finals taking place at 2 p.m. Sunday afternoon (all times Eastern).
