SUMMERSIDE – The women will be centre stage for Tuesday’s opening draw of the Capital One Grand Slam of Curling Players’ Championship.

All eight teams will take part in the 7 p.m. draw.

Fans can expect to see an entertaining women’s game, says Canadian women’s champion Heather Nedohin, who will skip her Edmonton rink.

The Jennifer Jones, Cathy Overton-Clapham, Eve Muirhead, Silvana Tirinzoni, Stefanie Lawton, Sherry Middaugh and Chelsea Carey rinks round out the women’s field.

The season-ending Players’ Championship also features the top eight men’s teams. The first two men’s games will be Wednesday at noon.

Workers at Summerside’s Credit Union Place were busy Monday making the final adjustments for the Capital One Grand Slam of Curling Players’ Championship that begins Tuesday.

The men’s entries include recently-crowned world champion Glenn Howard, Kevin Koe, Kevin Martin, Jeff Stoughton, John Epping, Mike McEwen, Niklas Edin and Brad Gushue.

“I don’t think you’ll see this strong of a field out there very often,” said Adam Casey of Seven Mile Bay, who is the third stone on the Gushue rink. “You have the eight best teams in the world.”

Both the men and women will be competing for $100,000 cash in purse money.

All games are eight ends.
