Two of the three PEI Atlantic Curling Tour events get new names

The Charlottetown Curling Club has announced that Canada’s Best Value Inn and Suites will take over as  sponsor of their annual Atlantic Curling Tour cashspiel, formerly the Rodd Curling Classic, which will now be known as “Canada’s Best Curling Classic”. This year marks the 21st anniversary of this event, won last year by New Brunswick’s Mike Kennedy and Melissa Adams rinks, which will take place November 1-4 at the newly renovated curling club.

The event will feature a 16 team triple knockout on the men’s side, with the women playing a 12 team round robin with two teams qualifying for the money round out of each of the six-team pools. Prizes (assuming full draw)- Men: 1st $3500, 2nd $2200, 3rd & 4th $1500, 5th – 6th $1250, Women: 1st $2500, 2nd 1500, 3rd & 4th $1000, plus $40 pay/win for the round-robin.

The other Island stops on the Atlantic Curling Tour are in Montague and Summerside.

The 16 team Montague event, formerly  the Gahan Brewery Cashspiel, also has a new name, the “PEI Brewing Company Fall Classic” and goes Oct. 26-28 at the Montague Curling Club. Clarey Consulting Ltd. is also a sponsor.

The Silver Fox Curling Club Cashspiel, sponsored by the Journal-Pioneer, is also a 16 team event, and takes place Nov. 23-25 at the Silver Fox Curling & Yacht Club. The event has a new format this year – all games are 8 ends, and teams are guaranteed 3 games. The top four teams will compete in a championship event on Sunday, which will also include a consolation event.

The Tour kicks off Sept. 27-30, with the SKYY Vodka Cashspiel in Lower Sackville NS, and wraps up with the ACT Championship, Jan. 4-6 in Moncton.
