PEICurling.com is working hard to make your social media interactions with us even better! For several years, we have been making our PEI curling news available via a number of distribution channels – our website, email, Twitter, Really Simple Syndication (lets other websites such as LiveCurling.com, individual PEI curling club websites, and the ScreenScape display at the Charlottetown Curling Complex automatically pick up our news feed), and Facebook. Click the icons/links on our PEICurling.com home page to find out how to access each of these channels.
For consistency of message, we deliver our news to all these channels at the same time, pushed automatically from our WordPress website. We also have the capability to distribute messages via an individual channel (such as live results via Twitter) when the need arises, but want to ensure that our primary news items are seen by everyone, regardless of which applications they use. We have also worked to make our website look good on mobile devices such as tablets and smartphones, and to make it “more social”, by opening up the comments facility on our website.
We have also installed “Sharing” buttons on our website following each news item and web page, so that you can Like or Share an item on Facebook, Google+, Pinterest, LinkedIn and a variety of other social media.
One connection that has not been working as well as we would have liked is our link to Facebook. We have been using “Networked Blogs” which has consistently delivered our news to Facebook, but with a delay, sometimes of several hours. We have now replaced it with a new system, the “Wordbooker” WordPress plugin, which delivers our news to Facebook both consistently AND immediately.
An exciting new feature with “Wordbooker” is the ability to share comments between Facebook and WordPress, so that our Facebook users can respond to a news posting, and have their comments appear automatically on our website, and vice versa. Now you can comment either on the website on on Facebook, and your comments will be seen in both places!
As the new curling season gets underway, we are working hard to ensure that you will always have the latest PEI curling information, regardless of how you follow us!
