Eddie MacKenzie rink finishes play at Propeller Cashspiel with 2-3 win-loss record

The championship round is set at the Propeller Brewing Company Cashspiel at CFB Halifax. PEI’s Eddie MacKenzie rink, the only Island team in the event, finished round robin play with a 2-3 win-loss record and did not make it to the money round. MacKenzie, whose team includes third Anson Carmody, second Christian Tolusso, and lead Alex MacFadyen, doubled Kris Tynski of Sydney 6-3, and edged Rob Harris of Halifax 6-5 in an extra-end. MacKenzie lost his opener 9-1 to Jamie Christianson of Halifax, suffered an 8-3 loss to Kent Smith of the Halifax Mayflower club, and a 6-4 defeat to Chad Stevens of Chester.

The men’s quarter-finals at 9 this morning see Harris take on Shea Steele of the Mayflower, and Stevens face Alan O’Leary of Dartmouth, with each winner taking on either Paul Flemming or Brent MacDougall, both from the Mayflower, in the noon semis.

In the SKYY Vodka women’s event, also at CFB Halifax, Jocelyn Nix of the Glooscap curling club takes on Colleen Pinkney of Truro, and defending champ Kelly MacIntosh of Dartmouth plays 2010 winner Marie Christianson of Halifax in the noon semis.

The men’s and women’s finals both go at 3 pm.
