Birt bunch lose out in semis – Crawford vs Breen in Lady Monctonian final

PEI’s Suzanne Birt rink, who were event runners-up last year, made it as far as the semi-final round this afternoon at the Lady Monctonian cashspiel at Curl Moncton, but lost their semi 8-6 to Theresa Breen and her Nova Scotia rink. Breen now faces New Brunswick’s Andrea Crawford in the 2:30 pm final. Crawford won her semi 6-1 over Nova Scotian Tanya Hilliard.

Birt and her team, which includes third Shelly Bradley, second Sarah Fullerton, lead Leslie MacDougall, and coach Peter Gallant, scored five points in one end in their quarter-final this morning against Fredericton NB’s Mary Jane McGuire rink, winning 9-1. Team Birt finished round robin play Saturday with a 3-2 win-loss record.
