Birt, Webster, Gushue among rinks competing in The Masters Grand Slam event, on Sportsnet and CBC, starting Thursday Nov. 15

PEI’s Suzanne Birt rink, along with the Crystal Webster team from Calgary, with PEI natives Erin Carmody and Geri-Lynn Ramsay, and the Brad Gushue foursome from St. John’s, which includes PEI-born Adam Casey and Brett Gallant, are among the star-studded lineup for Rogers The Masters Grand Slam of Curling, which gets underway Thursday Nov. 15 and concludes on Sunday the 18th at the Wayne Gretzsky Sports Centre and three other venues in Brantford Ontario, with the best teams in the world competing for over $200,000 in prize money. Other members of the Birt squad, who were runners-up in this past weekend’s Canada’s Best Curling Classic in Charlottetown, are Shelly Bradley, Sarah Fullerton, and Leslie MacDougall.

The Masters is the first stop on the Grand Slam of Curling, an elite series of men’s and women’s curling events, which are part of the World Curling Tour and feature the best teams from across Canada and around the world. The Grand Slam, which also includes The Canadian Open, December 12-16, 2012 in Kelowna BC, The National, January 23-27 in Port Hawkesbury NS, and The Players’ Championship, April 16-21 in Toronto, is now owned by Sportsnet, who are airing all the Grand Slam events, and are partnering with CBC on The Masters and The Players’ Championship.
