Weekend cashspiel update: Dolan in Halifax semis, Webster in B qualifier game in Saskatoon

Here’s an update on this weekend’s cashspiels that feature PEI teams or players.

Oak Island

The Oak Island Junior Cashspiel in Chester NS got underway Saturday and concludes on Monday. PEI’s Chris Gallant rink is 1-1 in round robin play, following a win over Avery Hughson of Fredericton and a loss to Jonathan Crouse of Truro. The Lindsay Doucet rink which includes Seven Mile Bay’s Anita Casey, is 0-2, while the Robert Mayhew rink, coached by former Islander and world junior champ Alan Mayhew is 1-1.

Molson Mayflower Hurry Hard for Hunger

Charlottetown’s Kim Dolan rink has qualified for the 12:30 pm semi-finals at the Molson “Hurry Hard for Hunger” cashspiel at the Halifax Mayflower club, following a 2-2 round robin record. They’ll be playing the Mary Mattatal team in one semi, while Mary Anne Arsenault  faces Marie Christianson in the other. These three teams are all from Halifax, and finished with 3-1 records. The final is at 3:30 pm.

On the men’s side, Charlottetown’s Jamie Newson finished round robin play at 1-3, while Montague’s Donald Clarey didn’t pick up a win in his four games. The 8:30 am quarter-final matchups see Chris Sutherland take on Ian Juurlink, Rob Harris play Mark Dacey , James Grattan face Paul Flemming and Brent MacDougall meet Chad Stevens. Grattan is from Moncton, the rest are from the HRM.Semis are at 12:30, and the final goes at 3:30.

Colonial Square

Calgary’s Crystal Webster rink, which includes PEI natives Erin Carmody and Geri-Lynn Ramsay, will have a chance to qualify on the B of the $54,000 Colonial Square Ladies Classic, at 10 am (noon Atlantic) this morning in Saskatoon against the Renee Sonnenburg team from Grande Prairie. The winning team will advance to the quarter-finals, while the runner-up will move down to the C event of the triple knockout. Team Webster are the defending champs in this event, which wraps up with the 7:30 pm Monday final.
