For someone keen to thicken her resume, for someone with no scheduling conflicts, for someone intrigued by the prospect of a skipping-free event, for someone who’d never before been to Montreal, it all made perfect sense.

Kurt Balderston asked this past summer. Cheryl Bernard said yes, quickly.

“I was really happy and surprised (by the invitation) because there’s a lot of players in Alberta to ask,” Bernard said Monday. “They gave me a call and I didn’t hesitate for a second. Any chance you can get to play in a Canadian championship, I can’t imagine you’d ever turn it down.

“It’s a really good opportunity with a really good team.”
