Five-enders do in PEI teams in their The Dominion openers

One draw is in the books for the PEI teams at The Dominion Curling Club Championships in Scarborough Ontario, but those books don`t record a win.

The PEI men`s team from the Crapaud Community Curling Club includes skip Alan Inman, along with Steve Thomson, Gordon Fall, and Tony Quigley. They lost their opener 7-5 to the Richard Faguy rink from Quebec, who, trailing 2-1 after three, grabbed the lead with a big five point fourth end, and stole a single in the fifth for a 7-2 lead. PEI fought back with a deuce in six, and a single in seven, but the Quebecers ran them out of rocks in the eighth.

The Island women`s rink, skipped by Nola Murphy out of the Silver Fox Curling & Yacht Club in Summerside, also fell victim to a five-ender in their game against Quebec`s Sonia Simard rink, which they lost by an 8-1 score. The first end was blanked, with Simard recording singles in ends 2 through 4. PEI got on the board with a single in end five, but the five-pointer by Quebec in the sixth brought the game to a speedy conclusion. Other members of the Murphy rink are Donna Arsenault, Paulette Richard, and Elspeth Carmody.

PEI next plays Nunavut at 5:45 pm (Men) and 9:15 pm (Women) Atlantic time.
