Silver Fox Curling Club Cashspiel starts Friday at 3 pm

The SILVER FOX CURLING CLUB CASHSPIEL, part of the Atlantic Curling Tour (ACT), and sponsored by the Journal-Pioneer, gets underway Friday afternoon at 3 and wraps up with the 1 pm Sunday final at the Silver Fox Curling & Yacht Club in Summerside.

There’s a new format this year, with 8 End Games – 3 Games Guaranteed, and the top 4 teams advancing to the 10 end Championship event on Sunday. There will be a consolation event as well, with the consolation final scheduled for 10 am Sunday, but could be moved up to 7 pm Saturday if the teams agree.

Twelve teams are entered, including last year’s winner, Rod MacDonald, and runner-up, Mike Gaudet, along with one team from Fredericton New Brunswick, skipped by Derek Ellard, and three teams from Halifax, skipped by Anthony Purcell (with Summerside area native Neil Gallant at second), Scott Saunders, and Rob Moore.

Besides Summerside natives MacDonald and Gaudet, other PEI entries are skipped by six time PEI women’s champ and  2010 national Scotties silver medallist Kathy O’Rourke (with Meaghan Hughes throwing skip stones), Summerside’s Mel Bernard, a three-time PEI seniors champ, and Charlottetown’s Robbie Shaw,  Blair Weeks, Jamie Newson and Lisa Jackson teams.
