Eddie MacKenzie rink eliminated from further play at Challenge Casino de Charlevoix

The World Curling Tour’s 2012 Challenge Casino de Charlevoix wraps up Sunday in Clermont, Quebec, with a total purse for the triple-knockout event of $37,000, of which the winner will receive $12,000.

The rink of Eddie MacKenzie, Anson Carmody, Christian Tolusso, and Alex MacFadyen,the lone PEI entry in the 19 team field, were eliminated from play this afternoon, after suffering their third loss in the triple-knockout event.  Three of the team members are the defending champions, as last year’s winning team was skipped by Brett Gallant, who has now joined Brad Gushue’s St. John’s team, along with MacKenzie at third, and Carmody and MacFadyen on the front end. The Gushue rink are not in this event.

The MacKenzie foursome lost their opener Friday morning to the Steve Laycock team from Saskatoon by a 7-4 score, and their second game 8-4 to the Serge Reid rink from Saguenay Quebec.They won their game this morning, 7-3 over the Pierre Gervais rink from Trois-Rivieres, Quebec, but lost this afternoon by a 5-4 score to New Brunswick’s Marc LeCocq rink.

The Martin Ferland team from Quebec City, and Saskatoon’s Steve Laycock rink, have already qualified in the A section, Mark Dacey of Halifax is playing Jean-Michel Menard of Quebec City in one of the three “B” qualifiers, currently underway.
