SUMMERSIDE – The Atlantic Curling Tour (ACT) will make its annual stop here at the Silver Fox Curling and Yacht Club this weekend.

The Journal-Pioneer cashspiel has attracted 12 teams from New Brunswick, Nova Scotia and Prince Edward Island, with play getting underway this afternoon.

Each team will be guaranteed three games, and all contests – including the semifinals and final – will be eight ends. The top four teams will advance to Sunday’s semifinals at 10 a.m., with the final at 1 p.m.

The winning team will receive $1,800 while the runner-up rink will take home $1,200. The third- and fourth-place entries each receive $900, with the consolation winner pocketing $600.

There will be a consolation event as well, with the consolation final scheduled for Sunday at 10 a.m. However, if the teams agree, that game could be moved up to Saturday at 7 p.m.

Rod MacDonald and his teammates are back to defend their title, and runner-up Mike Gaudet headline this year’s field. MacDonald and Gaudet, who both curl out of the Charlottetown Curling Club, are Summerside natives.
