Ulsrud wins Perth Masters over Mike McEwen, Gushue out in semis

The Thomas Ulsrud team from Norway beat Winnipeg’s Mike McEwen foursome by a 7-2 score in only five ends to win the Perth Masters in Perth Scotland today. McEwen was trying for his third win in a row in this event, but it was not to be.

Things started to go wrong in the second end, when McEwen clipped his own rock and then rolled out to leave Ulsrud with an unexpected 1.

…McEwen made  no mistake in the 4th, taking a deuce.

A measure in the 5th confirmed a massive 5 for Ulsrud – and it was all over for McEwen’s triple crown hopes. After 20 years of trying – Ulsrud was now the Perth Master.

The Brad Gushue rink, which includes PEI natives Adam Casey and Brett Gallant, lost 5-4 to Ulsrud  in the noon semi-finals, after defeating the Tomi Rantamaki rink of Finland by a 5-1 score in the morning quarter-finals to advance to the semi.
