O’Connor and MacFadyen earn finals berths at the O’Connor Glass Under 16 Ch’ships

Monday’s championship round is set at the O’Connor Glass/Curl PEI Provincial Under 16 Curling Championships at the Crapaud Community Curling Club.

supporteroconnorglassThe girl’s round robin wrapped up this afternoon, with the Rachel O’Connor rink from Cornwall finishing atop the standings with a perfect 5-0 win-loss record, earning them a bye to the 5 pm Monday final. Kaleigh MacKay and her combined Crapaud/Silver Fox Curling & Yacht Club team, and Lauren Moerike, and her rink from the Charlottetown Curling Complex  finished with 3-2 records, taking the two 1 pm Monday semi-final berths (for the record, MacKay is awarded second place, as she beat Moerike in their round robin encounter, by a 9-1 score). The winner of the semi will face O’Connor in the final.

Rounding out the six-team girl’s field are Montague’s Danielle Collings, at 2-3, and Karlie Lewis from the Western Community Curling Club in Alberton, and Tara Ray Crossman from the host club at 1-4.

In the eight-team triple-knockout boy’s section, Brett Matheson from Charlottetown beat Avery Wells from Cornwall and Crapaud 10-9 this morning to grab qualifying slot #3 for the Page round, while Leslie Noye from the Western Community club beat Montague’s Owen Collier 11-8 to capture the final qualifying spot. The first qualifier, Tyler Smith from Montague and Crapaud, took on second qualifier Alex MacFadyen from the Silver Fox in the Page 1-2 this evening, with MacFadyen coming from behind with a triple in the seventh end and a stolen single in the eighth to win 7-5, earning him a bye to the 5 pm Monday final. Smith will play in the semi-final, at 1 pm. Noye downed Matheson 10-1 in the Page 3-4 game, and will face Smith in the semi, with the winner taking on MacFadyen in the championship game.
