PEI women get 1st win at Seniors (Journal Pioneer)

SUMMERSIDE – P.E.I.’s Nola Murphy rink from the host Silver Fox Curling and Yacht Club in Summerside recorded its first win at the 2013 Canadian senior curling championships on Wednesday afternoon.

P.E.I. skip Nola Murphy.

Murphy, third stone Donna Arsenault, second stone Elspeth Carmody and lead Laurie Tirone counted four points with the hammer in the ninth end to break a 6-6 tie and go on to defeat the Northwest Territories’’ Ann McKellar-Gillis 10-6.

P.E.I., who then lost to 10-3 New Brunswick’s Heidi Hanlon in the evening draw draw, is 1-7 while the Northwest Territories who lost 13-1 to Quebec in the evening fell to 2-6.
