SUMMERSIDE – Rod MacDonald’s run at the Canadian Senior Curling Championship is over, after his P.E.I. rink fell flat in Saturday morning’s tiebreaker.

MacDonald shook hands with Ontario’s Howard Rajala after six ends, losing the match 10-1 and ending their tournament on a low note.

“We were just on the wrong side of the inch all game and didn’t make any shots,” MacDonald said.

The outcome was a surprise to many of the spectators, as MacDonald handed Rajala one of his three round robin losses on Friday morning. Rajala also lost to Alberta’s Wade White, who he will now face in the semifinal at 7 p.m. Saturday. The winner of that match will face New Brunswick’s Wayne Tallon in Sunday’s final

Despite the tough loss to cap it off, MacDonald enjoyed the tournament.

“It was fun… the fans were great and the ice was good. I really enjoyed playing in front of the home crowd.”

On the women’s side, Manitoba’s Lois Fowler downed Quebec 7-5 to advance to the semifinal against Alberta’s Debbie Santos.
